Brittany Brownotter (Standing Rock Sioux) is one of the top three performers back for NDSU Women’s Cross Country

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women’s cross country team will return a talented and experienced squad when NDSU hosts the Bison Open at Rose Creek Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 2, to open the 2016 season.

The women’s four-kilometer race is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., with the men’s six-kilometer race to follow at approximately 5:35 p.m. NDSU will host South Dakota State and North Dakota for the meet.

The Bison women return six of their top seven runners from last season, led by senior Taylor Janssen and sophomores Brittany Brownotter  (Standing Rock Sioux) and Emma Kusch Dahle. Also back for NDSU this year are senior Sydney Bork, junior Jenny Guibert and sophomore Kayla Huhnerkoch.

NDSU will also look to gain contributions from an incoming freshman class that features Melina Kuerschner of Edmonton, Alberta, and Ashley Perez of West Fargo.

The Bison finished third in a tight Summit League team race last season. Brownotter and Janssen are two of the top three performers back from last year’s conference meet after placing third and seventh, respectively.

Kusch Dahle wrapped up a successful freshman campaign in track with a second-place finish in the 10,000m and a third-place run in the 5,000m at the Summit League Outdoor Championships.
