Ben Strong (Red Lake Nation) had 16 Points and 12 Rebounds for Knicks in Loss to Austin Spurs

CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Austin Spurs sent the Westchester Knicks home from a difficult road trip with a 99-93 loss Sunday at the Cedar Park Center.

Playing their third road game in five days, Westchester (9-28) held the league-leading Spurs  (28-10) to just 20 points in the first quarter. The Knicks out-rebounded the Spurs 13-9 as Ben Strong racked up five boards. Darnell Jackson led all scorers with nine points in the first 12 minutes.

Austin gave up 12 points to Westchester with seven turnovers in the second quarter, but the Spurs unable to catch up to the Knicks. At the half, Westchester led in all shooting percentages including field goal, 3-pointers, and free throws.

The game shifted in Austin’s favor after intermission. Westchester’s nine-point lead was lost in the third by a 36-point quarter from the Spurs. The Knicks only managed 13 points on 4-for-26 shooting.

Westchester put in a good fight in the end, winning the final quarter 28-20, but ultimately were unable to recover from the dismal third quarter.

Erik Murphy was the high scorer for Austin with 21 points, He also snagged a double-double with 11 rebounds. San Antonio assignee Kyle Anderson just missed a double-double, ending with 16 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Jonathan Simmons provided 20 points.

Mfon Udofia made his first start for the Spurs and contributed nine points, seven rebounds and five assists.

All five Knicks starters scored in double figures in the game. Jackson tallied 23 points, six rebounds and five assists. Ben Strong (Red Lake Nation) continued his streak of double-doubles, hitting 16 points and 12 rebounds. Andre Barrett provided 19 points with four assists. Trey Gilder just missed a double-double, posting 18 points and nine rebounds. Doron Lamb contributed 10 points and six assists.
