Ava Battese (Comanche/PBPN) made 5-Three Pointers for Cameron Aggie’s basketball team who fall to Angelo State, 84-70

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Parfitt McNair scored a career high 24 points as they Aggie women’s basketball team fell to Angelo State on Saturday, 84-70.

The loss sets CU’s record at 4-5 overall and evens their Lone Star Conference mark at 2-2, while the Rambelles move to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Cameron came out hot in the first quarter going 5-0 within the first two minutes of play. They held the advantage until the 4:43 mark when ASU tied the game at 13 points. After going back and forth, the Rambelles used a 10 point run to go up 26-18. Cameron cut the lead to just six with a Jamie Bonnarens made jumper to end the quarter.

CU started the second quarter on an 8-2 run to tie the game at 28, but ASU pulled back ahead and by the end of the second quarter they held a 44-37 advantage, with the Aggies going scoreless in the final two minutes of the half.

McNair led CU at the break with 16 points, as she went 7-9 from the field and 2-3 from the perimeter, while three Belles were in double-figures with De’Anire Moore scoring 11 points.

Both teams were on fire from the field in the first, as CU shot 47 percent and ASU shot 54.5 percent; they both went 6-11 from three through the first 20 minutes of action. Only 10 total fouls were called in the first with the Black and Gold going just 1-2 from the line and the Rambelles going 2-4.

Angelo State controlled the action through the first part of the third quarter, extending their lead to nine points twice, but CU was able to chip away at the deficit and cut it to just five points at the end of the third, with ASU leading still, 64-59.

In the fourth, the Aggies went cold from the field and the Rambelles did a good job of making their free throws, going 7-8 from the line to close out the game with an 84-70 win.

McNair’s 24 points led the way for CU as she went 9-12 from the field and 3-4 from three while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out five assists. Bonnarens finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists, while Ava Battese (Comanche/PBPN) hit five three pointers on her way to a 15 point outing. Cameron shot just 41 percent from the field, but went 10-21 from the perimeter; they were just 6-10 from the free throw line.

Angelo State also got 24 point outing from one of their players, Marquita Daniels. Moore finished with 21 points while going 7-9 from the field and 7-10 from the charity stripe and Keanna Kelly chipped in 16 points with four three pointers.

Cameron will next play on Saturday, Dec. 16 when they visit Lubbock Christian starting at 1 p.m. They will have two more non-conference contests after that before returning to LSC play.
