Arizona State’s Daan Haven (Navajo) Places 3rd Overall at USD Invite to lead Sun Devils Women’s XC to team title

SAN DIEGO – Arizona State’s second outing on the cross country course was just as successful as its first as the Sun Devils went on to win both the women’s 6K and men’s 8K team titles Friday in San Diego.

The women picked up their second-straight win on the trot behind an impressive group effort led by their top-finisher Daan Haven (Navajo) who placed third overall.

Once again, it was the pack-running that gave ASU the win at Mission Bay as all five of the Sun Devil scorers finished in the top-10, and the top-four finishers took the third through sixth places, respectively.

Along with Haven’s third-place finish, last weekend’s No. 1 Megan Reniewicki took fourth, freshman Ava Shackell finished fifth and Courtney Lewis (Fort Mojave/Hopi) crossed the line in sixth. The fifth scorer was true freshman Lena Lebrun who came through in 10th to give ASU the win with just 28 team points.

With two-straight sweeps under their belts, the Sun Devils will have to wait just over a month for their next chance to race. ASU won’t lace up again until Oct. 19 when they make the trip to College Station, Texas, for the Arturo Barrios Invitational.
