Antelopes Currently tied for Third; Kelcey Tate (Navajo) Shoots Opening Round 75

The Grand Canyon University women’s golf team today played the opening round of the NM State Invitational, hosted by New Mexico State at the NMSU Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M. The Antelopes are currently tied for third with a first round score of three-over 291.

As a team, the Lopes carded the second-best Par 4 scoring (+9) and are tied for the second most pars at 59.

Emily Kaye is tied for 10th after carding an even-par 72. Kelcey Tate (Navajo Nation)  is tied for 40th with a first round score of three-over 75. Kaye tied for the second-best mark on Par 3 scoring at one-under, while her 14 pars tied for third-most today.

“Emily also had a nice round at even par 72,” added Powers. “And freshman Samantha Barker, playing as an individual, had a great round today as well.”

Deanna Salvatori and Kennedie Montoya are separated by one stroke at six-over 78 and seven-over 79 to stand in ties for 60th and 67th place, respectively.
