Alexis Desjarlait (Ojibwe) Led Concordia-Chicago with 13 points in Win over Great Lake Christian

RIVER FOREST, ILL. — After picking up their first conference win, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women’s basketball team played host to the Great Lakes Christian College Crusaders in a Monday night battle. A full team effort would help the Cougars to win this game handedly 92-50.
 

Inside the Box Score:

  • Leading the offense tonight was Alexis Desjarlait (Red Lake, Minn.), who tallied 13 points, shooting 50 percent from the arc
  • Also scoring double digits was Khaliah Reid (Naperville, Ill.), who scored 12 points and four rebounds
  • Mikalah Ellis (Chicago, Ill.) had a great night on the defensive end with seven rebounds and one block, as well as three assists

First Half

Starting off the action, Lela Scott (Indianapolis, Ind.) opened up with a three-pointer to take a lead of 3-2. Following this, Reid would get a jumper, before back-to-back threes from Nazuri Whigham (Naperville, Ill.) and Scott 11-2. Desjarlait would tack on her first points of the night, before Alisyn MacGregor (Loves Park, Ill.) slipped in a layup 16-6.

As more Cougars began to add to the point column, Ellis, Cydnei Mitchell (Aurora, Ill.), and Melia Perry (Plainfield, Ill.) would all create plays for themselves. This trio would help to pull the Cougar lead ahead to 22-10. Finally, Prentciss Gates (Gary, Ind.) would lay in some points as well, leaving them ahead 24-14 to end the first quarter.

The second quarter would start off slow on the offensive end, as both teams tried to create plays on their respective ends. Scott would find room for two, before Desjarlait hit a three to make it 29-12. Desjarlait would stay on a hot streak, take the CUC lead all the way to 34-14.

Following these plays, MacGregor drew a foul and would score a couple more points for the Cougars. Finally, Reid would go on a terror, scoring the next six points to close out the first half 44-17.

Second Half

Coming out of halftime, Ellis and Reid came in hot to keep tallying up the Cougars score. Whigham picked up a steal to assist Reid before scoring one for herself 54-17. Desjarlait sunk another three-pointer, followed by layups from Ellis and MacGregor 61-21.

Perry would keep the energy going after a three and a layup at 68-29. Abby Kulig (Carol Stream, Ill.) finished off the third quarter with a great look in the paint 70-33.

Mitchell was lighting up the scoreboard to start the final quarter, along with Janie Ternes (Oak Lawn, Ill.), as they pulled the score to 77-36. Emma Nickerson (Lake City, Mich.) and Linley Southern (Decatur, Ill.) found some room for themselves as well, making it 84-46. The Crusaders would try to start a rally here, but would not be able to stop the Cougars offense.

Kayla Jackson (Worth, Ill.) started to move the ball in her favor, approaching the end of the game. Amaya Martin (Issaquah, Wash.) would close out the game with a couple points of her own, marking the game off at 92-50. The Cougars would win this game over the Crusaders with a final score of 92-50.
