AFL’s SaberCats Exercise Options on Rookie Standout Nathan Stanley (Cherokee Nation)

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Arena Football League and the San Jose SaberCats announced the team has exercised rookie options on 18 players, including quarterback Nathan Stanley and wide receiver Dominique Curry.

“We are thrilled to have Nathan and Dominique back with the SaberCats,” said Owner and Head Coach Darren Arbet. “We are excited to see them build on their outstanding rookie years.”

Stanley (6-4, 225, Southeastern Louisiana/Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma) stepped up huge for San Jose during his first season in the AFL. Twice thrown into the starting role after veteran quarterback Russ Michna went down with injuries, the rookie quarterback thrived at the head of the SaberCats potent attack. As a starter, he led San Jose to 7-2 regular season record while completing 201-of-335 pass attempts for 2,436 yards with 50 touchdowns to just 13 interceptions. Stanley also contributed four rushing scores, and delivered a 55-28 first round playoff win over Spokane with 193 yards and five touchdowns through the air.
