Abby Scott (Warm Springs Tribe) Scores 16 Points For NM State but the Aggies Fall at Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. –  Abby Scott (Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs) scored 16 points New Mexico State but the Aggies couldn’t keep up with Sacramento State and fell 93-85 Thursday evening at The Nest.

The Aggies started the game off on the right foot and midway through the first half opened up an 11-4 lead.

However, the Hornets (1-3) went on a quick 9-0 run and took a 13-11 lead.  For the remainder of the first stanza both teams traded baskets and SSU went into halftime with a 36-33 advantage.

SSU, who runs a fast-break offense, opened the second stanza on an 18-8 run and led 54-41 at the 14:37 mark.

Despite keeping up with the Hornets’ high-octane offense for the majority of the game, the Aggies had a difficult time gaining traction late. In the final 10 minutes NM State cut to within six points on four separate occasions.

The Hornets won the game on the boards and outrebounded the Aggies 48-38, including 23-2 in second-chance points.

Shanice Davis scored a game-high 23 points and  Zaire Williams added 14 points and was 4-for-7 from beyond the arc.

For the game the Aggies (0-3) shot 41 percent (30-of-72) from the field.

The Aggies have an eight-day layoff and return to action Friday, Nov. 28 at 1 p.m. against Weber State at the Pan American Center.
