Shania Nichols (Ojibwe) Led Kennesaw State with 20 Points in her debut with Owls

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women’s basketball opened the 2025-26 season, snatching a convincing victory over Shorter College on Tuesday night at VyStar Arena. Shania Nichols led the Owls with a game high 19 points off six made three-pointers, while Kailyn Fields finished with 14 points. 

THE FIRST HALF
The Owls went on an early 6-0 run that included four points from Keyarah BerryKailyn Fields would also make her presence known on the court quickly by putting up two three-pointers in the first quarter placing the Owls ahead 19-8. 

Following a layup from Fields to open the second quarter, newcomer Kaelyn Flowers delivered a nice jumper to put KSU up, 23-11, with just above six minutes left in the quarter. In her first game as an Owl, Nichols made three back-to-back buckets towards the end of the second quarter. Kennesaw State would hold a 38-20 lead going into the break.

THE SECOND HALF
The Owls hit the ground running to begin the third, scoring the first couple points to lengthen their lead to 40-21. Shania Nicolas caught fire from deep, drilling three from long range to stretch the margin to 72–30 by the close of the third.  Shorter managed to score six points in the fourth, but Kennesaw State’s dominance held strong, closing out the game 85–36.

Kennesaw State held Shorter to 24% shooting from the floor.

NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls will be hosting their second home game of the season on Saturday at 7 PM against Florida Atlantic at VyStar Arena. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
