by Utah Tech could not stave off a furious fourth quarter Wildcat rally as the Trailblazers suffered their first loss of the 2025-26 season, 82-76, at in-state rival Weber State on Saturday afternoon inside the Dee Events Center.
How it happened
With the game tied at 13-13 after the opening 10 minutes, the Trailblazers (2-1/0-0 WAC) opened the second quarter with a 10-2 run to open up a 23-15 lead after a Lauren Crocker 3-pointer with 7:26 to play until halftime.
Weber State (2-2) managed to trim Utah Tech’s lead down to two points at 31-29 with just 2:20 remaining in the frame, but an Andjela Colic bucket and free throws from Brie Crittendon and Kaylee Borden helped give the Blazers a 36-31 cushion at the intermission.
Utah Tech came out on fire to begin the second half, hitting its first five shot attempts to race out to its biggest lead of the day at 47-35 with less than three minutes gone in the third quarter.
The Blazers managed to maintain to keep their lead around the 9-to-11 point range over the next several minutes. But Utah Tech could not put the Wildcats away as Weber State closed the stanza with a 10-4 spurt to make a five-point game again at 55-50 heading to the fourth.
After two Maddie Warren free throws extended the Trailblazer lead to 61-54 with 7:40 left in regulation, Weber State rattled off 13-straight points over a near three-minute span to take its first lead since the opening minute of the contest at 64-61 with just under five minutes to go.
Crittendon finally stopped the run with two free throws on Utah Tech’s ensuing possession to cut the Wildcat lead to one point.
However that would be as close as the Trailblazers would get as Weber State scored the next seven points to push its advantage to 71-63 and held on from there to escape with the home victory.
Numbers to know
Borden led three Trailblazers in double figures with a career high tying 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting. Borden also posted her first collegiate double-double with a team and career-high 11 rebounds.
