Haskell Indian Nations’ Women’s Basketball Falls to Big 12’s Kansas Jayhawks in 785 Community Game

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Haskell opened the game with early energy but couldn’t keep pace as Kansas used depth, rebounding and consistent pressure to pull away for a 107–39 victory on Thursday.

Haskell traded baskets early in the first quarter and briefly grabbed a 5–3 lead on a layup by Ivy Fox. Kansas responded behind Lilly Meister, who scored inside and at the free-throw line to spark an early run. After a jumper by Tea Murray tied the game at 3-all, Kansas steadily took control, closing the opening quarter on a surge to lead 27–10.

The Jayhawks extended the margin in the second quarter, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and turnovers. Kansas outscored Haskell 33–9 in the period to take a 60–19 advantage into halftime. Haskell’s scoring in the quarter included free throws by Ona Dauphinais and a jumper from Fox, but Kansas’ size and depth proved difficult to counter.

Haskell continued to battle in the third quarter, with Tierzah Penn and Fox finding baskets, yet Kansas’ transition game and rebounding widened the gap. The Jayhawks pushed the lead past 70 midway through the period and entered the fourth ahead 80–25.

In the final quarter, Haskell got contributions from across the lineup, including baskets by Jayla Flient, Bree Johnson and Allie Green. Kansas, however, continued to score from multiple players and closed out the game with a decisive final margin.

Haskell was led offensively by Fox and Dauphinais, while Kansas was paced by balanced scoring throughout the rotation, including strong performances from Meister, S’Mya Nichols and Brittany Harshaw.

Haskell will look to regroup as it continues its nonconference schedule, while Kansas moved forward with Big 12 play.
