by USSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist 7-foot-2 sophomore center Erik Madrid was named Great American Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
It’s his first career honor.
In last week’s games against Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello, the Tulsa, Okla., native compiled 16 rebounds, six blocks and four steals. Thirteen of those boards came on the defensive end too. Plus, all those totals were most among the four GAC defenders nominated.
This season, Madrid’s impact has been substantial. He’s fifth in the league in blocks (21) and 14th in rebounding (5.5). And on the offensive front, Madrid is tied atop the GAC in field goal percentage (71.3).
