NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Katelyn Olson played the full 90 minutes and made seven saves as Gustavus closed its season with a 4-2 loss at No. 20 Carleton on Saturday, finishing her career with a school-record 405 saves.
Olson, a senior goalkeeper from Cloquet, made two saves in the first half and five more in the second to reach 405, extending the Gustavus career record she broke earlier in the week. She allowed four goals as Carleton clinched the outright MIAC regular-season title.
Carleton opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Hadley Twichell volleyed home a deflected cross from Lily Shure, then doubled the lead in the 48th minute on Lola Feurer’s rebound finish. Gustavus answered with two goals 61 seconds apart — Katie Thomas in the 50th minute and Brayleigh Sumner in the 51st, both from close range on set pieces — to level it at 2-2.
The Knights regrouped and regained the lead in the 70th minute, when Shure knocked home the rebound after Olson’s diving stop on Madison Ketchum’s 24-yard rocket. Twichell added an 82nd-minute insurance goal, her second of the game and 21st of her career, for the 4-2 final.
Gustavus ends the season 4-9-5 overall and 3-6-2 in MIAC play, finishing six points short of a conference playoff spot. Carleton finished 12-1-2 and 10-0-1 in the MIAC, the 21st time since 1988 a MIAC women’s soccer team has gone undefeated in conference play.
