MADISON, Wis. — Tayson Echohawk placed ninth in 23:18.2 over 8 kilometers at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Friday morning at the Zimmer Championship Course, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors.
Echohawk finished as Oregon’s sixth runner across the line, just outside the Ducks’ scoring five but inside the top 10 that earns first-team all-conference recognition.
Oregon won the men’s team title with 23 points, its scoring five finishing 1-3-4-7-8. Teammate Simeon Birnbaum won the individual championship in 23:04.2.
The Ducks entered the meet as defending Big Ten champions and the No. 6-ranked men’s team nationally, and the title is the first step of their postseason run.
Oregon’s postseason continues in two weeks at the NCAA West Regional on Nov. 13 in Sacramento, Calif., where the top two teams earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind.
