Pima CC Sophomore Melicia Nelson (Navajo) scored a team-high 19 points

The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (10-3) picked up its 10th win of the season on Monday as it played a non-conference game against Cochise College (3-10) at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

  • The No. 5 ranked Aztecs held off a fourth quarter rally and went on to beat the Apaches 93-83.
  • The Aztecs led 78-65 with 8:19 left in the game but Cochise went on a 10-2 run in almost four minutes to cut Pima’s lead to 80-75, but that was as close as they would get. Freshman Lucy Fisher (Mesquite HS) scored the final two baskets that would help maintain the 10-point advantage.
  • Sophomore Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) scored a team-high 19 points to go with nine rebounds, nine assists and five steals. She shot 8 for 12 from the field.
  • Fisher was 6 for 8 shooting and finished with 18 points along with four rebounds and two assists.
  • Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller (Dream City Christian) added 15 points as she went 6 for 10 from the field. She also pulled down seven rebounds.
  • Freshman Reigne Waugh also scored in double figures as she closed out the game with 12 points, three rebounds and two assists. Waugh went 8 for 8 from the free throw line.
  • The Aztecs and the Apaches shot a combined 64 free throws. The Aztecs went 26 for 33 (78.8 percent) and Cochise was 22 for 31 (71 percent).
  • The Aztecs went 31 for 60 (51.7 percent) from the field and 5 for 12 (41.7 percent) from three-point range. The Pima bench outscored Cochise 21-7
