The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (2-2) faced a tough battle on Friday in the second day of the SC4 Thumbcoast Tip-Off Tournament.
- The No. 4 ranked Aztecs fell to No. 7 Illinois Central College 86-68 in a matchup between two NJCAA Division II Nationally Ranked programs.
- The game was kept close, but the Cougars outscored the Aztecs in the fourth quarter 34-23.
- Sophomore Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) scored a game-high 23 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
- Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller (Dream City HS) was in foul trouble for much of the game and managed 11 points in 15 minutes of play.
- Freshman Reigne Waugh also finished the game with 11 points and also pulled down six rebounds and had two steals.
- Sophomores Ahdiayh Chee and Lucy Land each scored six points off the bench. Freshman Lucy Fisher (Mesquite HS) had two points and seven rebounds.
- The Aztecs shot 29.9 percent (23 for 77) from the field while the Cougars shot 60 percent (27 for 45). Illinois Central also shot 73.5 percent (25 for 34) from the foul line. The Aztecs got out-rebounded 38-31.
