With five Tigers posting double-digits in the scoring column, Mizzou women’s basketball toppled Arkansas State 97-75 on Tuesday night at Mizzou Arena.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter led the team with 23 points and added nine rebounds.
Senior forward Jordana Reisma recorded her second double-double of the season with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
Redshirt senior guard Jayla Smith stuffed her stat line with 15 points, six blocks, four steals, two assists and two rebounds.
After winning the jump ball, Slaughter opened the contest with an immediate 3-point conversion before an exchange of points between the two teams throughout the first frame.
With a 13-13 tie and under three minutes left in the quarter, Smith grabbed a steal and Slaughter finished at the rim to regain the lead. Mizzou closed out the first leading 17-14.
The Tigers started the second quarter hot, knocking down all seven of their first field goals. Junior guard Abby Shreacke knocked down three 3-pointers within the first three minutes of the period to ignite a 17-0 run.
Slaughter was in control offensively with a 100% mark from the field, contributing nine of her final tally in the second frame.
In the last minute of the first half, freshman forward Reka Toman knocked down her first three as a Tiger, securing a 42-25 lead entering halftime.
Led by Reisma with eight points in the third, Mizzou continued to build on its lead. The Tigers produced a team effort with seven players appearing in the scoring column and collectively knocked down their last five field goals in the frame. With 33 points in the quarter, it is the most scored in a period from the Tigers since Nov. 28, 2021.
A free-throw from junior guard Lisa Thompson followed by a fast-break layup from Smith would give Mizzou its largest lead of the game at 71-48 to close out the third period.
The Tigers kept their foot on the gas to start the final quarter, as Reisma tossed in the first four points for Mizzou before Smith cashed in her first three of the game.
A few possessions later, Smith snatched her fourth steal of the game, tying her career high, and took it coast-to-coast to stretch the Tigers’ lead to 26.
With 24 seconds remaining, Smith capped off the night with her career-high sixth block to put the final touches on Mizzou’s dominant performance and secure the victory.
