by Crownpoint, NM – On July 31, 2025, Mariah Begaye (#3) from Tohatchi, New Mexico, proudly joined Navajo Technical University as a student-athlete. Initially interested in nursing, Maria found her passion for welding, inspired by her father, a welder. She is now enrolled in NTU’s Welding program while maintaining her love for basketball.
Mariah is thrilled to join the NTU women’s basketball team. Coach Aanor Louis praised her, saying she “teaches strong fundamentals and keeps the team focused.”
“I want to develop new welding skills and play alongside women who take the game seriously,” Mariah said. “I’m excited to travel and represent NTU on the court—it’s a wonderful feeling to be part of a university team.”
