Haskell Indian Nations University Men and Women Defeat York in First of Two Game Road Swing

(York, Nebraska) – The Haskell Indian Nations University men’s and women’s team traveled to York, NE and both came away with victories today in the first game of a two game conference road swing. Both teams will now travel to Mcpherson, Kansas to play Central Christian College on January 24th.

Haskell Women (13-5, 2-2) 75, York College (8-9, 2-2) 61
The Haskell Ladies had 4 players score in the double-digit column in a 75-61 win against the York Panthers.  Sophomore Center Keli Warrior (Ponca Tribe) lead the way for Haskell with 20 points and she pulled down 10 rebounds as well. It marked the second consecutive game Warrior has scored exactly 20 points. Senior guard Jenine Coriz (Pueblo) and Tinaya Murphy (Navajo) each scored 14 for the Indians and Jennah Williams (Wichita tribe) added 11 respectively. More importantly the Haskell ladies improved to (2-2) in conference play after previously playing two top 25 teams from the conference to start the season. The Indians will now face a Central Christian squad that is (1-3) in the conference and (7-13) overall. Stats

Haskell Men (5-15, 3-1) 107, York College (11-8, 2-2) 100
The Haskell men’s basketball squad would carry over the momentum from the Haskell Lady’s game in a 107-100 win that got a little tight at the end but clutch free throw shots down the stretch kept the Panthers at bay. The Panthers jumped out early in the 1st half of the game and took a commanding 61-47 lead going into half-time but an explosive 60 point half for the talented Haskell Indians overcame the deficit. Haskell men had 5 players score in double-digits with Senior forward Randy July (Mvskoke) leading the way with 22 points. Zack Bruns (Lakota) would have 20,  Stand Lovato had 19, Duelle Gore had 18 (along with 12 rebounds)  and Tsalidi Sequoyah had 12 points to round out the top scorers. The Indians (3-1) moved into a tie for first place in conference play, along with #6 Bellevue and Waldorf College. The Haskell men also face Central Christian (1-3) and (11-7) overall. Stats
