Chris Wondolowski (Kiowa Tribe) Scores for Earthquakes in 1-1 Draw Friendly with USL affiliate Reno 1868 FC

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes continued their preseason preparations on Tuesday with a 1-1 tie against USL affiliate Reno 1868 FC in a closed-door friendly at Bellarmine College Prep. Quakes midfielder Jahmir Hyka made his first appearance for the club, playing 16 minutes.

Quakes forward Marco Ureña had the first chance the game in the third minute, firing a shot from the edge of the box that narrowly sailed wide of goal. Ureña continued to be heavily involved throughout the first half and had another opportunity in the 22nd minute when he combined with Kofi Sarkodie inside the penalty area, but the Costa Rican’s shot was cleared away from danger.

Reno broke the deadlock in the 55th minute through Hoppenot, who struck past Andrew Tarbell at the near post to make the score 1-0. The visitors’ advantage was short-lived, however, as Wondolowski (Kiowa Tribe) equalized three minutes later.

Ureña, receiving a through ball from Kofi Sarkodie, back-heeled a pass to the Quakes captain who finished off the play to level the score line.

The Earthquakes will wrap up their preseason with a friendly against their former USL-affiliate, Sacramento Republic FC, on Saturday, February 25. The match kicks off at 2:00 PM at Avaya Stadium. Tickets are still available via ticketmaster.com.
