2012 Native American Boxing Championship

Since 2001, the NABC has identified over 100 boxing clubs that are in Native American communities and reservations and supports their efforts to continue and encourage young Native boxers who are also participating in numerous USA Boxing Championships, Jr. Olympic, Golden Gloves, Silver Gloves, PAL and USA Boxing events across the nation.
NABC is paving the way for our youth as they prepare for the 2016 Olympic Games. We are inviting the Native community to support our youth in their quest to reach the highest pinnacles of Indigenous stature at these games. NABC believes it is well positioned to conduct an effective development program which will enable selected Native American Boxers to become Olympic qualifiers for the 2016 Olympic Games.
There are few times of greatness to witness in one’s life. This is a time of greatness that NABC hopes can be created together, joining with the greater native community, and doing the right thing for the right reasons.
Boxing has one of the richest histories in sport. Having first been practiced back in 3000 BC, boxing was one of the first sports to be included in the modern Olympic Games. It has now grown to be one of the core sports in the Olympic program with a great tradition and ardent following. With today’s advancement in the technology & engineering of the protective equipment, the safety of the Native youth is unquestionable. SAFETY is first and foremost and the best officials from across the country will be utilized.
With world championships for elite men and women, youth and junior athletes, world cup and team events, it is one of the Olympic sports with the biggest international participation rates. To compete at the Olympic Games is the goal of every sportsman and sportswoman. At the 2012 Olympics for the first time women will be included. It is time to help our young, aspiring Native females achieve the ultimate goal of being an Olympic champion.
It is with great pleasure that NABC advocates the inclusion of women’s boxing events in the 2012 Native American Boxing Championships because women’s boxing is a vote for the future.
The competition will be held through an elimination system. For all categories, progressive rounds will be held with the loser of each bout automatically being eliminated. This will continue until two boxers are left to box for the championship round. Awards will be given to the finalist in each weight category.
It is the goal of Native American Boxing Championships to be recognized by the National governing bodies of Amateur Boxing as a viable and respectable organization. We will be producing a National Native team to tour and compete on an international level. We will be also seeking representation at the Pan-Am Games, to state a few of our short-term goals.
